Large-scale bottom-up three-dimensional nonlinear photonic crystals

Adding a new dimension to the bottom-up fabrication of second-harmonic photonic crystals.

We have developed the first bottom-up fabricated three-dimensional nonlinear (second-harmonic) photonic crystal. We measured the spatial periodic variation of the second-harmonic generated light and achieved three-dimensional photonic crystals on an extensive surface area.

With the optical platform of 3D nonlinear photonic crystals, a plethora of theoretically predicted effects can be studied, and ultranarrow multi-wavelength and coherent (quantum) light sources are envisioned.
