Metal strips as heaters for dense integration in thin film lithium niobate integrated circuits
We investigated the influence of design parameters on the performance metrics of thermo-optic phase shifters.
Platinum strips with varying width and length are used to induce optical phase shifts in lithium niobate-on-insulator waveguide structures. Our measurements show the potential of thermo-optic phase shifters as low footprint components. By comparing them directly to electro-optic phase shifters we are able to show better performance in terms of stability and for sub-MHz switching.
