Mechanically tuneable nonlinear signal in flexible semiconductor structures
We fabricated a flexible structure that can be stretched by 50% (see video).

Bottom-up grown array of GaAs nanowires (NWs) are embedded in polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and mechanically detached from the substrate using a razor blade.
The second-harmonic generation (SHG) intensity can be controlled through mechanical stretching, which changes the distance between the NWs and affects the collective resonance (Mie resonances’ overlap of individual NWs).
